Kraftbomb was created by two crafty ladies, City Down and Karla Hansen, fueled by a shared love of handcrafts and a growing need for a regular craft market in Auckland. The first event was held on August 31st, 2008 and since then Kraftbomb has taken on a life of it’s own.
Held on the last Sunday of every month at the Grey Lynn Community Centre, Kraftbomb has cemented it’s the place in the Auckland craft community, showcasing talented crafters and allowing them to share their amazing crafts with our wonderful customers.
Kraftbomb is an indie, alternative handcraft market and supports all things handmade, encouraging the use of traditional handcrafts with a modern twist and upcycling. Karla and City were both taught handcrafts through their Mothers and Grandmothers and now use these skills with their own contemporary spin!
I work full time as a tattooer, which is how City and I initially met each other. When not tattooing or drawing I’m always stitching something!! Plush toys, cross stitches, usually things that push your “pc”ness. I don’t like to take life too seriously so you need to have a sense of humour to appreciate my crafts. I learnt crafting at an early age from my mum and grandmum and loved giving my mum a proud giggle at whatever crazy thing I had created, when I told my nana that I was making cute giant plush tampons she laughed like a maniac…
I’m an artist, crafter, badass vegan cupcake baker and graphic designer. I design, make and sell my Stitch’d Ink range of cross stitch kits with patterns based on either retro tattoo art or quirky designs. As my alter ego the NZ Cupcake Queen I bake delicious, vegan cupcakes with the support of my loyal customers who place orders and turn up every month at Kraftbomb for their cupcake fix. When I’m not crafting, painting or baking I’m running around after my two dogs or being tattooed by the lovely Karla!
